The epitome of French chic – Chanel! And Hermes

Chanel:

Coco Chanel’s 2.55 chain bag represents the epitome of style and ultimate status symbol.

First introduced in 1955, the year giving the bag its name, was made from silk, lambskin, calfskin or fur in a range of complementing colours.   Although over time the bag this iconic bag has been updated,  it is still is one of the worlds most recognisable and sought after handbags.
Coco Chanel would have been upset should her creations not have been copied. The 2.55 inspired many different quality imitations.

By 1980, a Channel bag was one of the most coveted fashon symbols.   Based on the quilted coats worn by the boys on the race tracks (a lot of her designs were influenced by her love of horseRacing) the 2.55 contains a secret pocket in the front flap, where, it is reputed Coco Chanel, kept love letters from her current beau.

Tired of holding her bag in her hands, losing many and watching Socialites juggle theatre programmes and champagne glasses , Mlle. Chanel intended the thin double chain shoulder strap.

Karl Lagerfeld joined the company in 2005 and took over creative Leadership. He promptly revived the 2.55 in its original form.  The re-issue proved even more popular than the original.   The 2.55 is more famous today than ever!

Hermes:

Designer, Thiery Hermes, founded his saddlery company in Paris in 1837 adding over the years other equestrian goods, boots, jewellery, house décor items, perfumes and silk scarves.
His grandson, Emile, added luggage.

At the turn in the century, the Organization realized that the horse, was being superseded by other forms of transport and diversified into luggage trunks and bags.

1930s saw the opening with the Paris Store, and also the primary couture collection.  The well known Hermes silk scarf inspired through the scarves worn by Napoleon’s soldiers, became very popular.   Scarves, for both men and women are nevertheless one particular of Hermes’ most well-known goods.
The famous sac-a-depeches co-designed by Actress Jane Birkin (later to be re-named the Kelly bag soon after Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco) was added to the Hermes goods, and was instantly a resounding success.

The ‘Kelly’ bag was the forerunner in the status bag, and currently has the longest waiting list inside history of accessories.   It can be an example of classic beauty, lasting style and renowned pattern.

Around the years, Hermes has become a name synonymous with luxury, creating only the highest excellent luxury goods worn by celebrities.
